Geological collection
Geological Collection
The Geological Collection is Thuringia’s most complete regional collection and has existed since 1779. Comprising around 50,000 objects, the collection of rocks, minerals, and fossils started in the eighteenth century. The stratigraphic collection consists of 15 display cases and offers an overview of the evolution of Earth and life on Earth. Several smaller display cases provide information on Thuringia’s geological structure. The collection is used extensively in the training of earth sciences and biogeosciences students.
