Geological map collection

Geological maps are the most fundamental database for the majority of geoscientific and geotechnical problems. The map collection of the Institute of Geosciences is located in the Institute of Geosciences at Burgweg 11 and hosts a complete coverage of the federal state of Thuringia with geological maps at the scale of 1:25,000 ("GK25" series) as well as numerous German maps at various scales (1:25,000, 1:200,000) from various epochs back into the 19th century.
In addition, we also archive geological maps from all over Europe and overseas. The focus of the collection is increasingly on the Alps and eastern Europe, with an emphasis on the Balkan Peninsula (Former Yugoslavia, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece).
