Botanical Garden

Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is the green heart of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and is located right in the centre of town. More than 10,000 plant species make it a place to encounter a great variety of the world’s different natural habitats—palms trees, citrus plants, or the model of a South-East Asian river landscape as well as the various greenhouses and outdoor areas are perfect public resources for cultural events and scientific study, but also for relaxation. The garden is the second-oldest of its kind in Germany, and its design and set-up is closely linked to the work of Goethe. Being part of various and varied international research networks and projects, the Botanical Garden also makes an important contribution to nature conservation and is an academic institution as well as a place of learning for everybody.

The Botanical Garden is open to visitors 363 days per year.
