Der Ort Belen (arab. بيلان Bailān) liegt an einer wichtigen Verbindungstraße zwischen Anatolien und Syrien (der sogenannten 'Syrischen Pforte'). Dieser Bedeutung Rechnung tragend, hat Sultan Süleyman der Prächtige den Ort 1551 mit einem Komplex aus Moschee, Khan, Hammam und Armenküche (imaret) ausstatten lassen .
Der Belen Fluß (arab. نهر بيلان Nahr Bailān) teilt den Ort Belen in zwei Teile, auf einer Seite des Flusses befand sich das Viertel der türkischen Bewohner, auf der anderen das der armenischen (Paboudjian, Michel. „Les Arméniens du sandjak. Die Identifikation des heutiges Ortes Muratpaşa mit dem als Umrad/Murad von Haussknecht bezeichneten ist nicht sicher. Der Ort, in dem Haussknecht am 3. März 1865 übernachtet hat, könnte einige Kilometer weiter westlich liegen in der Nähe der heutigen Stadt Kırıkhan. (SK)

Die Identifikation des heutiges Ortes Muratpaşa mit dem als Umrad/Murad von Haussknecht bezeichneten ist nicht sicher. Der Ort, in dem Haussknecht am 3. März 1865 übernachtet hat, könnte einige Kilometer weiter westlich liegen in der Nähe der heutigen Stadt Kırıkhan. (SK)

Der Ort Belen (arab. بيلان Bailān) liegt an einer wichtigen Verbindungstraße zwischen Anatolien und Syrien (der sogenannten 'Syrischen Pforte').
