Coin collection - oriental
Oriental coin collection (OMJ)
The OMJ is the second largest collection of Oriental coins in Germany. In 1840, Johann Gustav Stickel founded the cabinet, which in turn he developed into one of the most important collections of his time. After 1919, the activities of the coin cabinet remained dormant. After 1994, with the support of the German Research Foundation and help of private benefactors, the cabinet became, once again, one of the most important research collections of Oriental coins. The OMJ is again part of the international research in Islamic studies by co-operations, projects, publications, and exhibitions, among them in Vienna, Istanbul, Budapest and New York.
