About the project

The 'Collectionportal' is a collaboration between the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Thuringian University- and State Library of Jena. The aim of the project is to make objects of exhibitions or scientific and educational collections, publically accessible for a wider audience online. The involved collections are significant points of contact for various research related questions, due to their excellence in maintaining the remains of Europe's cultural heritage and more. With the 'Object of the Month' and general collection related information, publications and holdings, the portal serves educational institutions, interested individuals and scientists.

The presentation online, enables to reconcile objects across conventional and historic borders which have been established over time. The objects are scientifically analyzed and accessible in high resolution on the collection portal of the Friedrich Schiller-University. With the digitalization project, the university follows a recommendation of the German Council of Science and Humanities, to realize a complete inventory across various collections within one central database.
